Bantam chickens are extremely curious and energetic birds by nature, hence you will have to be very careful with their food, water, and other needs to keep them composed. Take a look at the following points that will tell you exactly how to raise bantam chickens.

Food for Bantams
Although bantam chickens can survive on the same food as their keepers, they cannot survive on it for long. They need nutrition that is specific to their diet, which includes:
•Whole grains
•Greens
•Protein
As a regular diet, whole grains are the best sources of nutrition for bantams; an enough supply of it should be available in the coop all the time. You can also find chicken feeds available at various farm feed shops where you can choose the one according to your budget and requirement. Make it a point to feed only whole grains against cracked ones as the former is way healthier than the latter. One good thing about bantam chickens is that they can search for food on their own unlike other chicken breeds. This will help you when you are out and cannot feed your pet. It will save a lot of time for other activities as well as you don’t have to keep monitoring the food timings of the pet, a frequent check is important though. Let them roam around in a fenced area filled with grass, weeds, and fresh green vegetable leftovers to feed themselves. As far as protein is concerned, bantams can obtain protein from insects, worms, and bugs in the summer, however, in winter their diet should include soy, milk, fish, etc., to fulfill the protein amount. Water is the most essential thing for the survival of chickens as it is for all living things. They need lots of water, especially when laying. A bowl of water should always be kept near the door of their coop where they can get it easily whenever they want. Make sure that you clean up the bowl every day and fill it with freshwater to prevent any disease.

Shelter for Bantams
Bantam chickens stay in a chicken coop. The most important thing to be considered while setting the coop is the temperature of the area. A heat lamp has to be placed above the coop so as to provide a sufficient amount of warmth to the chicks if they are not with the brooding hen. The placement of the lamp is extremely important for proper heating. If you notice that the chicks are huddled up beneath the lamp, you must understand that they are feeling very cold and if dispersed, then they are feeling hot. The standard temperature of the coop must be 90-95° F for the first week and a gradual decrease of 5° F for the following weeks. The chicks need to stay indoors for at least the first four weeks.

Protection from Predators
Every living thing is always at a risk of experiencing a threat from its predators and so are bantam chickens. It is the utmost responsibility of the owner to keep its pet animal protected from such dangers and provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for survival. Animals that prey on bantams are snakes and raccoons that might attack them on land whereas hawks, owls and others can attack from above. Hence, you should fence the bantam shelter properly, securing all the possible access points.

History
The most striking feature of Sphynx cat is that it has very less or no fur. That is why, it is generally referred to as a ‘hairless cat’. The first breeding session of these cats began in the year 1966 in Canada. A domestic Shorthair cat had given birth to hairless kittens, which were then selectively bred to produce next generation of hairless cats. These cats were called “Canadian Sphynx” or “The Canadian Hairless”. As time passed by, people began referring to them as “Sphynx” which was then considered as their official name. So, every Sphynx cat is a descendant of the same domestic short-haired cat.

Characteristics
Sphynx is a muscular cat with a barrel-shaped chest, round belly and medium body length. It has a flat forehead with a wedge-shaped skull. Cheekbones are extremely prominent on the long skull. A whisker zone can be prominently observed on a Sphynx cat’s face. It has big oval-shaped eyes that extend upwards towards its ears. Its eye color can range from blue, green to hazel. Ears are large with a wide base and a narrow tip. Back legs are longer than front legs with thick oval-shaped paws. It has a thick, flexible tail which tapers towards the end.

Sphynx cat is found in various colors and patterns like cream, chocolate, white, black, cinnamon, spotted, patched, etc. Its color depends on the pigment of the skin. If left in the sun for a long duration, its color tends to darken. Even though the cat is considered hairless, it still has a very fine coat of fur. The skin of body, face and legs is wrinkled as compared to remaining body parts. The whisker zone might be distinct but it lacks their presence.

Behavior
This breed of cats is very friendly and fun-loving. It loves to bond with people and is affectionate towards them. Apart from being social, it loves to be the center of attention. Its loving, playful and lively personality makes it a great companion for children. Not only with humans, this cat can also get along very well with other cats and cat-friendly animals. A comfortable warm place is something this cat looks out for sleeping. So, you should not be surprised if you find your pet cat sleeping under your bed covers!

Habitat
The best place to live for a Sphynx cat is indoors. It does not have difficulty in adjusting to live in an apartment. The reason why this breed needs an indoor living arrangement is that, their body is not so capable of surviving adverse environmental conditions. Due to absence of fur, a Sphynx cat does not enjoy cold conditions and prefers to avoid sleeping on cold surfaces. Outdoor arrangements can be made, but the area must be enclosed from all sides including the roof. To prevent them from boredom, adventure activities must be arranged to keep them busy and happy.

One of the advantages of kissing gouramis is that they are easy to care for. However, there are various factors that have to be taken into consideration, while raising them in an aquarium. They include the size of the tank, feeding, compatible tank mates, breeding, etc.
•One of the primary aquarium requirements of kissing fish is sufficient space. As they tend to grow bigger in a very short span, you have to keep them in big fish tanks. A 30-gallon tank or larger ones are suggested for raising this fish. Ensure that the bottom of the tank has a good amount of gravel and stones.
•Even the water conditions must be monitored. You can use soft or moderately hard water with a pH of 6.5 to 8.5. The hardness of water must be between 5 to 30 dGH (use soft water, while they breed). The water must have a temperature of 72 to 82 degree Fahrenheit.
•Make sure that these fish get enough space and lots of natural and artificial vegetation, in the tank. In case of natural plants, go for strong and sturdy ones like Java fern or Java moss (inedible), as tender plants may be consumed by them, in whole. These fish must have access to the water surface, as they take in oxygen from the air (in between).
•One of the important aspects of kissing gourami fish care is the choice of tank mates. As they are sometimes aggressive, it is always better to keep them with slightly larger fish. Kissing gouramis may also feed on smaller fish in the tank. They may also bully other fish and ‘kiss’ them. This may result in loss of protective mucus layer on the skin (of the other fish) that becomes prone to infection, leading to death. Ideal kissing gourami fish tank mates are cichlids, catfish, clown loach, silver dollar fish and barbs.
•As far as kissing gourami diet is concerned, you must understand that they are omnivores that feed on a wide range of foods. They are also algae eaters, who suck in the algae growing on the stones and inner surfaces of the tank. It will be better not to clean the back glass of the fish tank, as these fish can feed on the algae growing on it.
•You may feed kissing fish with algae-based flakes, frozen or freeze-dried live food like, bloodworm, brine shrimp and tubifex. Even live insects (small), glassworms and earthworms may be offered as food for this fish. Kissing fish may also be fed with cooked (parboiled) lettuce, peas, zucchini, etc. Uneaten food must be removed soon, as it may make the water foul.
•For breeding kissing gourami, a large (separate) tank with soft water is required. Offer them with live food and maintain the temperature level at 80 degree Fahrenheit. The male fish wraps its body around that of the female, who releases eggs into water. The male fertilizes them, as they float to the surface.
•It is better to remove the parent fish, once the spawning is finished. This is to save the young ones, as the adults are found to feed on them. You may also cover up the eggs with some floating vegetation or lettuce leaves. This acts like an anchor to the fry that can also feed on the bacteria growing on the leaves.
•It takes only a day for the eggs to hatch. The fry will start swimming in another day or two. You have to feed them with live food like brine shrimp (newly hatched ones) or fine flakes.
The above said is only a brief overview about kissing gourami – the kissing fish. If you are really interested in growing these fish, it is always better to gain a thorough knowledge about them, beforehand. You may collect such information from breeders or those experienced in raising kissing fish. If properly taken care of, kissing gourami may live up to five or six years.

There are a few things to note, before you start the actual bathing process. Firstly, it is necessary to take lukewarm water and not very hot or cold water because extreme hot or cold water might cause physical harm. Secondly, a shampoo should be pet specific or a mild one which is commonly used for cats and dogs. In case, you cannot find a pet soap, you can use a baby soap, as it is milder than adult soaps. You should strictly avoid use of any detergent or dish soap. Thirdly, do not ever dip your rat into water, though it feels comfortable being partially submerged.

Step 1
Close the bathroom door and keep the lukewarm water ready in a small bucket. Keep the two pans in the bath tub and fill one pan with 2 inches of water. A bath tub is preferred over a sink because a frightened rat can slip out of your hands and go down the drain, hurting itself. Make sure that you keep all the after-bath requirements, like towel and dryer, handy to make things easier for you and your pet.

Step 2
Place the rat gently in the pan and wet it all over only with your hands. Do not pour water on the rat’s face.

Step 3
Now, take a small amount of pet soap and apply it on the rat’s body till it produces enough lather. Be careful while doing this because if the lather goes into the rat’s eyes or mouth it can cause irritation in the eye and upset its stomach. Massage the shampoo into the fur using your fingers.

Step 4
If any area on the rat’s face needs to cleaned, take a cotton swab, dip it in water and wipe the dirt off. Rinse the lather with water.

Step 5
Place the rat in the other pan and have a final rinse with clean lukewarm water. Here you can use your hand to pour water on the rat’s back or a small cup. Make sure that you clear off all the soap residue from the fur of the rat.

Step 6
Wrap a towel around your rat and pat it dry. You can use a dryer for the purpose of drying. Keep the dryer at least one foot away from the rat’s body and do not use it on its face.

Step 7
You can treat your rat after the bath to make it realize that bathing isn’t really a bad activity, it just might co-operate the next time you give it a bath.

We all know that animals do not have the ability to use language as the medium of their communication. But, they do have other abilities of conveying messages to other animals amongst which use of body language is the most important factor. The messages can be of many types like conveying food location, calling for mating rituals, danger alarms, appreciation of good deeds like helping other animals in dangerous situations, etc. There are different types of animal communication, which will be looked at in this segment. Different species use different types of communication. There are two main types of communication in animals and consists of a few subtypes under them.

Verbal Communication

Sounds are one of the most common types of verbal communication in animals and the majority of the species use them as the medium to convey messages. Bats usually follow sound waves to communicate. They mostly rest in the morning and become active at night to search for food and do other tasks. All the birds communicate through their chirping and it is ultrasound waves that they use. Mammals, generally, make use of sounds to give calls to other members of their community. The smaller animals squeak and larger ones rumble. It is found out through studies that, an animal with the smaller head can produce really large sounds and also receive a greater frequency of sound! Whales are the perfect users of sound waves. They have a whale song, which they repeat after regular intervals.

Non-Verbal Communication

Facial Expressions
This kind of communication is mostly found in dogs. When they are angry, they show their teeth snarling and raise their ears. On the other hand, when they are frightened, they pull their ears behind with the mouth open. In birds also, when the parent bird brings food for the offspring, the ‘begging expression’ can be observed on its face.

Take Your Horse to His Enclosure: Introduce him to this place and just let him be! Once you have got him to your barn or pasture, let him get accustomed to the surroundings. Stay around him when he is exploring his new residence and don’t forget to feed him well. Let him know that you are going to be there for him.

Groom Him: Groom your horse slowly, especially in the initial stage. Horses are sensitive, they would understand your touch and your motive. Grooming as an activity will create a bonding between the both of you and help you connect.

Spend More Time with Him: The main step to get to know your horse better is by spending more time with him. He is like this new person you want to be friends with. The more time you will spend with him, the more you’ll get to know him better.

Observe How He Socializes with Other Horses: A horse is a highly social animal, hence observe how he gels with his other mates. Understanding this behavioral type will help you understand what’s going on in his mind when he behaves in an unusual manner. Also, it is believed that when a horse molds his behavior by adapting it from a trained horse he learns faster.

Be Gentle: Don’t yell or try giving him commands immediately, give him some time. Let him get used to your style of teaching and training. A horseman should know neither fear, nor anger. ~ James Rarey

Communicate Well: Horses speak in a different language but you can totally understand it, and that would require time. Talk to your horse like you would want to. Give him a name and call him with that often. Even when you are trying to talk to him use repetitive phrases like calling out the name of the horse food that he eats, and familiarize him with terms like walk, ride and race. It is said that, horses can’t talk in the human language but they can speak if you listen.

Take Time to Judge Him: Horses are really fast to respond to any stimuli. So take your time before to judge your horse and categorize him. The more you let them free you’ll understand their traits better. Once you know how he’d react in different situations, you can keep your tricks ready and use some strategies to influence him.

Understand Your Horse & His Personality Type: Horses are divided into two type of personalities overachievers and sensitive. Over achievers are usually horses who try to anticipate their master’s action and often react before even receiving the commands. These horses are highly independent and are often misunderstood by those who are new to horses. The art of controlling such horses lies in learning the act of dominating them. The other personality type is sensitive. Such horses are great followers of commands and allow to take charge easily. However, they are called sensitive because they can get upset for something as small as a loose shoe or a harsh command. You’ve gotta watch out, as they can get impulsive.

Ravens are considered to be harbingers of ill-omen and death in most Western folklore. They are considered so evil, that their favorite food is said to be the flesh of a dead man.

In Chinese, Egyptian, Greek and Semitic myths, the raven is a messenger of bad or stormy weather. In Sweden, they represent the ghosts of murdered people. In Germany, they are symbols of eternally dammed souls.

Odin, the most powerful of all Norse gods, had 2 pet ravens, Hugin and Munin who saw and heard everything and reported such information to Odin.

In the Bible, the raven was the first animal to fly or leave Noah’s Ark, to see if the flood had died down. Ravens are mentioned in 7 of the Bible’s verses.

The raven is a key mythological figure in North American folklore. It is regarded as the beast that created the Earth, a trickster and sly being and even its black plumage is explained in an ancient Indian story.

In Irish Celtic folklore, ravens were mediators between the gods and the mortals. They would bring prophecies and messages between the realm of the gods and Earth. The Celtic goddess Morrigan takes the form of a raven to visit those who will soon die on the battlefield.

The best raven myth is that of the Welsh/Celtic god, Brân the Blessed. The Welsh word for raven is bran. Brân the Blessed was the King of the Britons and was dying after a vicious battle against the Irish. He was so anxious to protect his people, that he told his followers to cut off his head and bury it under the White Hill, so that his presence would prevent Britain from ever being invaded. This is why the Tower of London (built over White Hill) is populated by ravens and has 6 official raven residents. Legend has it that if the ravens ever leave the Tower, the British empire will fall.

From the above amazing facts about ravens, it just goes to show you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover or in this case, a bird by its color. Whether scavenger, predator or prankster, the raven is a classic example of brains with an eye for mischief.

Gemsbok
It is also called an Oryx Gazella. They are a part of the antelope species. It is light brownish in color, weighs between 350 – 550 pounds, and grows about 4 feet tall. It has white and black patches on its face, rump and legs. They have beautiful long horns too. The male has straight horns which are curved outward, while the females have horns which are curved both outward and rearward. These animals are often hunted for their horns. They are really fast in running and can reach speeds up to around 35 mph.

Warthogs
They lie in the same species as a domestic pig. They have a flat face covered with warts, thus the name. They are not appealing in terms of their appearance. They have four rounded tusks, which make them look all the more ferocious. They are usually gray or black in color. They are approximately 2 meters tall, and weigh between 120 – 250 pounds. They have sparse hair on their back and a thicker mane. In spite of their aggressive appearance, they do not prefer fighting.

Gecko
In appearance, they resemble lizards. There are about 12 different families of geckos found in Namibia alone. The Barking Gecko, Day Gecko and Dwarf Gecko are a few of them. The interesting feature of the Barking Gecko is the interesting sounds that it makes. The Day Gecko is generally active during the day and it is found on the trees. The eyes of a gecko seem just like a pin point during the day, but they dilate considerably during the night.

Namib Long-eared Bat
Very little information is available on these species. They are endemic to the Namib Desert. They generally roost on the loose barks of the Acacia trees found on the banks of river Kuiseb. They have light brown colored fur, which is common for most of the desert animals. Their inner wing membranes are olive brown in color.

The Golden Mole
Now these are typical burrowing animals. Their eyes are covered with skin and fur. They have tiny ears. They use their sense of touch to sense vibrations and interpret any attack. They are about 8 – 20 cm in size, and they live underground.

Silver-backed Jackal
These jackals are reddish in color. They are also called Black-backed Jackals because of their silver and black colored back. Their tails are black and bushy, and they have reddish limbs. They are around 15 inches tall.

How to Train a Toy Poodle Puppy?
•The crate training is the most effective toy poodle training methods. You should arrange for a crate, put a soft blanket into it and train your pet to stay in it when the pup is neither relieving itself, nor eating or playing.
•You should make sure that the crate is placed at such a place in the house where there is a lot of activity. This way, the pet will never feel lonely.
•One of the most important aspects of the training method is to potty train the pet. If you wish to know how to potty train a toy poodle, then make sure that you take the pet out for relieving itself at an early stage. When the poodle does it, reward the pup with a treat. Poodles learn a lot with the reward technique.
•Another important thing to remember is that poodles understand human emotions and translate it into stress. Therefore, when you are playing with your pet, make sure you are in a happy and lively mood in order to keep the poodle lively and cheerful.
•When training the pup to bring back a rubber ball, you should start by rolling the ball in front of the pet. Then take the ball in your hand and give it to the pup. Then take it from the pup, throw it at a shorter distance and tug at its collar to make the pet go to the ball and bring it back. As usual, verbally praise the dog or give it a treat when the mission is accomplished.
•When the pet barks, make sure you find out the reason for the barking before trying to stop it. If the pet is barking for no reason, make sure you firmly tell the pet to stop. Be firm and clear (but do not shout). Doing this for a couple of times will train the dog to be quiet.
•Lastly, as mentioned above, these dogs are highly prone to suffering from small dog syndrome. Therefore, you should make sure that you train the pet to be obedient and teach commands like ‘potty’, ‘sit’, ‘stop’, etc., as early as possible.
